An unprecedented rise in chronic diseases

that threatens health and the insurance system

Chronic diseases, defined as long-term and progressive pathologies, have a major impact on all aspects of daily life. In France, more than 20 million people suffer from them, and this figure is rising as the population ages.

The Inserm Foundation is proposing to its partners to fund research into cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death worldwide, and the second leading cause of death in France after cancer.

Advances in research have already made it possible to reduce the mortality and morbidity associated with these diseases over the last few decades. However, they are still responsible for 140,000 deaths a year, underlining the urgent need to pursue efforts in this field of research, which receives less funding than other areas.

Hospitalization rates for coronary syndrome have been rising in women under 65 for the past 20 years.

15 million

people are treated in France for cardio-neurovascular disease, cardiovascular risk or diabetes.

Testimonial

Cardiovascular diseases expose patients to numerous complications: myocardial infarction, stroke, chronic renal failure, Alzheimer’s disease… The Inserm Foundation supports research into the multifactorial risks of these pathologies, such as socio-environmental factors, as well as metabolic and behavioral risks.
